Travelling to Electromagnetic Field

EMF will be held at the Eastnor Castle Deer Park, just east of Ledbury, Herefordshire.

To experience the full event, you should aim to arrive on Thursday 16 July and depart midday Monday 20 July. Our main programme of content will run from Friday morning until Sunday evening. You won't be allowed on site outside of these dates unless you've volunteered to help with setup or teardown.

By Train

If you are unfamiliar with the UK train system, please refer to this wikivoyage page and follow their general guidance.

EMF is close (5 km) to Ledbury station which is around three hours from London Paddington (on GWR) and one hour from Birmingham New Street (on West Midlands Railway).

The station at Ledbury has short platforms, so if you are on one of the long 9-coach trains direct from Paddington, you will need to be in the rear three coaches to get off the train.

Shuttle Bus

We will be providing a free shuttle bus service between Ledbury station and EMF during the event. Buses are scheduled to coincide with rail services, and (in theory!) you should not have to wait long for a bus to take you from Ledbury railway station to EMF.

The shuttle bus service is operated by Buchanan's of Hereford.

Important

While the service is timed to coincide with rail services, there is a lot of demand on Thursday, Friday and Monday, so the bus meeting your specific train might be full and you will have to wait for the next one. Please allow plenty of time to get from EMF to the railway station, particularly if you have booked an advance train ticket and have to travel on a specific train.

Service frequency is a goal and not guaranteed, as traffic or delays in setting down or picking up will disrupt the schedule.

Tesco

The service operates throughout the weekend and will stop at Tesco in Ledbury on request. If you want to go to Tesco, let the driver know as you board. On the way back, just flag the bus down from the bus stop opposite Tesco (same side of the road as the petrol station).

Live Tracking

You can check the location of the buses via GTCTrack.

By Car

If you plan to drive, you will need to buy a parking ticket or live-in vehicle ticket.

Plan your travel to the south gate on the A438 - postcode HR8 1RQ should get you there. The entrance to the site is located at 52.0322, -2.3837, grid reference SO 73774 37158.

Once you're near the site, you'll see yellow temporary road signs for EMF - follow these and ignore your sat nav if it tells you differently.

Unless you are travelling in a live-in vehicle, you will be parked in the main car park which is adjacent to the event site, at most a 300m walk from the main gate. More information for live-in vehicles.

We encourage attendees to carpool where possible. There's a lift sharing page to find other people on the same route.

Electric Vehicles

We do not provide electric vehicle charging at EMF. We ask that you arrive at the event with enough charge to leave at the end of the event. We will be able to provide EV charging in an emergency.

By Bike

While we do not have any dedicated bike parking, EMF is an extremely safe event and you are welcome to lock your bike to our perimeter fence or other structures as long as it's out of the way.

Motorcycles

Motorbikes do not require a parking ticket.

By Air

The closest major airport is Birmingham (BHX), which has free shuttles to the train station and is around 1:40 by train to Ledbury station; or an hour by road. Bristol (BRS) and Cardiff (CWL) are around 1:40 by road, but poorly connected by public transport.

For those travelling long-haul, BHX is likely to be most useful followed by LHR. GWR offers integrated rail tickets between LHR and Ledbury.

Between Ledbury and EMF

We will be providing a free shuttle bus service between Ledbury station and the EMF site during the event, but not during setup and tear down. Ride share services such as Uber and taxi service are extremely limited and unlikely to be available.
