Finances

In the interests of transparency, to both our attendees and to others who may be interested in running their own events, the full financial statements for Electromagnetic Field are available here.

Electromagnetic Field is a non-profit event, and every penny of surplus we make goes back to the community, either by making future events better or by donations to other worthy causes. The events business is risky, so we aim to keep a substantial cash reserve so that we can deal with unforeseen circumstances.

Financial Statements

These financial statements have been very lightly summarised for clarity and to suppress internal organisational details, but they otherwise contain a detailed breakdown of our finances.

Although EMF's financial year ends in September and hence should cover the majority of transactions for each event, accounting rules sometimes require that we recognise expenses in the year they are incurred, rather than the year of the event they relate to. Consequently, the numbers for an event year may not completely represent the full profit or loss made on the event.

Starting with EMF 2022, our events are operated by a subsidiary company, EMF Festivals Ltd, which is wholly owned by Electromagnetic Field Ltd. The initial investment in this company is visible in the 2021 accounts.

Since splitting into two companies, publishing our accounts has become more complex, but we intend to update this page soon with more recent accounts.

If you have any questions, please drop Russ an email or ask in IRC.
