The Maths of Quantum Mechanics

Workshop by Bryony Lanigan

Friday from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM in Maths Village

In the quantum mechanical world, particles in boxes aren’t as trapped as you might like to think they would be thanks to the phenomenon of quantum tunnelling. In this workshop we will work through the mathematics of a “particle in a box” and derive the maths behind this seemingly counter-intuitive result. You should be familiar with (or at least aware of) integration and differentiation as well as trigonometry and exponential functions (up to AS level maths), but no prior comfort with quantum mechanics is needed. To sign up for this workshop, add your name to the list on the clipboard outside the Maths Village tent.
