Temple of Containment (By Artist Conor (CJ) Pitcher)
The Atomic Priesthood welcomes you, one and all to visit the "Temple of Containment" - A space dedicated to the mission of the Atomic Priesthood.
An Art instillation, a ceremonial space, a place of atomic guardianship, a place of ritual - but not a place of honour.
My current practice concerns Nuclear Semiotics, a multidisciplinary field of research which aims to design long term nuclear waste warning messages to deter future human interference. Work investigates the idea of an 'Atomic Priesthood'—a proposed system of preserving knowledge of science, waste locations, and history utilising mythology, folk tales, and the creation of new nuclear legends.
The Temple considers the notion that, what if they existed? What might an Altar dedicated to them look like? What would a makeshift Temple look like? What do they consider an artefact(s) worthy of archiving? What may a ceremony to members look and feel like?
Come to have those questions answered, and leave with many more.
Remember: We consider ourselves to be a powerful culture.
