Home made cloud chamber to visualise high energy background radiation

A father and daughter home science project by Footleg (he/him) and Nat (they/he). A cloud chamber is a device which creates conditions such that high energy particles (alpha, beta, gamma radiation and muons) leave vapour trails, making it possible to view high energy particles present as background radiation (and from any radiation sources which happen to be around). We designed an entirely thermoelectrically cooled design which can operate just from mains power without the need for consumables like ice or dry ice. If we succeed in getting it working we will give demonstrations of the radiation naturally all around us. If it is too hot to make it work we can still show how we designed and built it.
