Versions of Now

See the same moment in time rendered across a collection of display technologies, from glowing Nixie tubes and VFDs to OLEDs, E Ink, LED matrices, split-flap displays, and more.

Every display shows the same time (approximately), but each expresses it differently. Watch a Nixie tube gently fade between digits, a split-flap display clatter into place, an E Ink display that looks like handwriting, or a sparkling OLED animation. Some displays glow, some reflect light, some move, and some briefly reveal the mechanics of updating.

At first glance it’s a board full of clocks. Look a little longer, and you’ll start to notice the unique character of each display technology: refresh rates, persistence, brightness, animations, and even tiny imperfections that are normally hidden from view.

Whether you’re interested in vintage electronics, modern displays, or simply enjoy beautifully engineered objects, this installation offers a chance to experience how different technologies shape our perception of the same shared “now.”
